SUMMARY:Analyzing Data Sets in the Dynamic and Contextual Database ODIS
DESCRIPTION:ODIS is a dynamic and contextual database. It offers instruments for innovative\, multidisciplinary and comparative research into the historic civil society\, furthering cross- fertilization between scholarly researchers and the custodians of the relevant cultural heritage collections. In my presentation\, I will demonstrate the utility of GIS within this database with numerous data series for researchers. \nDr. Aaldert PrinsConsultant Evadoc (KU Leuven – Belgium). \nAaldert Prins graduated from the Evangelical Theological Faculty (ETF) in Leuven\, Belgium\, in 1991 with a Licentiate in Theology. SUMMARY:Spirit-Led Technology and GIS
DESCRIPTION:We are all taught that modern tools empower us to manage with insight and innovation in our efforts to make the world a better place\, and for faith-based initiatives to produce great outcomes for God’s Kingdom. Yet… we also believe Jesus is Lord over all. Pete will review how that conflict came to a head for him (a high-end numbers guy)\, how that has worked out in the past\, present\, and practical examples of how you can move toward a future of radically God-driven perspective in your own work. We’ll leave plenty of time for Q&A in this workshop. \nPete HolzmannICTA Executive Director // Spirit-Led Technologist and Global Mission Influencer. \nPete’s been an executive strategy and info/tech consultant for many decades. Working from a tech background as a Silicon Valley consultant\, he helped pioneer a number of technologies\, from GIS to database\, email to hard drives. Among other things\, the “10/40 Window” emerged from his work to create the first desktop GIS. Perhaps most unusual: together with Cecilia Mikolajczak he helps the body of Christ learn how to nurture our intimate trust relationship both with God and one another\, all in the practical context of modern high tech. Pete and his wife Leslie live in Colorado. They have two adult daughters and three young granddaughters.

SUMMARY:Using GIS to Measure the Social Impact of Christian Missions
DESCRIPTION:What kind of impact have missionaries made on the world? Have they harmed the world by merely exporting western values\, or have they improved the world? Robert Woodberry addressed these questions and more: by examining historical patterns and statistics between 1820 and 1920\, he explains how missionaries have influenced healthcare\, education\, printing\, social reform\, economic development\, and democracy. \nRobert Woodberry.senior research professor at Baylor University \nRobert Woodberry directs the Project on Religion and Economic Change and is a senior research professor at Baylor University. Woodberry has analyzed the long-term social\, political\, and economic impact of Protestant missionary activity in Asia\, Africa\, and Latin America. Woodberry holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
